Their kingdom was occupied and put to the sack by foreign troops, and the dying king cursed the knights who betrayed him. They used to say that the knights managed to build a fortress on a distant island where there were all their treasures. But the cursed warriors couldn't leave this world after death, and their souls were still guarding the jewels.
